Coordinator: Malinda MacKay

For more than 40 years, the women of the parish has provided a meal following funeral services as a tangible expression of comfort and compassion.

What began as a simple act of service has become a lasting legacy of love at St. Michael Parish.

The Funeral Dinner Ministry continues that tradition by offering a full meal to families after the loss of a loved one. The meal is provided on a donation basis only — no family is ever turned away due to inability to contribute. All information regarding meal costs and any donations given to offset expenses is kept strictly confidential.

This ministry thrives because of the generosity of St. Michael parishioners who give of their time and talents.

Ways to Serve

There are many opportunities to assist with this beautiful ministry of mercy:

Food Donations
Requested food donation are put on "Sign-up Genius" and a link is posted on FaceBook.  Those who do not use Face Book may contact Malinda MacKay or contact the parish office at 316-777-4221.

Meal Preparation (Evening Before)
Some volunteers gather the evening prior to the funeral to decorate tables and prepare items for the meal.

Meal Preparation & Serving (Day of Funeral)
Volunteers arrive a few hours before the funeral to finish meal preparations, prepare beverages, serve guests, and provide a welcoming presence.

Clean-Up
After the meal, a dedicated team assists with clean-up. This group works together efficiently — and with joyful fellowship — to restore the space.
