We rejoice when a child is welcomed into the Church through the Sacrament of Baptism. Through Baptism we become members of the Body of Christ and receive new life in the Holy Spirit.

When parents request Baptism for their child, the Church asks them to take part in a brief preparation process so they can better understand the meaning of the sacrament and their role in raising their child in the Catholic faith.

Scheduling a Baptism

Complete the Baptism Preparation Class
Parents are asked to complete the Baptism Preparation Class before scheduling their child’s baptism. The class only needs to be completed once for your family. If you have already taken the class for a previous child baptized at St. Michael’s, you do not need to take it again.

Contact the Parish Priest to Schedule the Baptism
After completing the class, please contact Fr. Curtis Robertson at the parish office or speak with to schedule your child’s baptism.

Selecting Godparents
Please read the “Godparent Requirements” below.  If the Godparent is not a member of St. Michaels they will need to fill out a Godparent Approval Form and have their parish priest sign the form.

 Godparent Requirements

Godparents play an important role in supporting the parents as they raise their child in the Catholic faith. The Church asks that godparents:

  • Be at least 16 years old
    • Be a fully initiated Catholic (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist)
    • Be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
    • If married, be married in the Catholic Church

A baptized Christian who is not Catholic may serve as a Christian witness alongside a Catholic godparent.

Parish Membership

Families requesting Baptism at St. Michael’s are normally registered members of the parish. If you are new to the parish or not yet registered, we would be happy to help you become part of our parish family.

If you are registered at another Catholic parish but would like to celebrate the Baptism at St. Michael’s, you may be asked to provide a Letter of Permission from your pastor.

Please contact the parish office if you have any questions. We are happy to help guide you through the process.

Baptism for Older Children and Adults

Older children, adolescents, and adults who wish to be baptized are prepared through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) process.

Please contact the parish office at 316-777-4221 for more information.
